The Apology wasn’t just one speech by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

In the days and weeks following Kevin Rudd’s speech on February 13, 2013, representatives from every corner of Australia began speaking out. Like most Australians, they generally supported the Apology, though some were opposed. The courageous decision of Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson to unwind his party’s dogmatic resistance to the Apology liberated his colleagues to speak their mind, or rethink their old prejudices.

This history is at risk of being largely forgotten. This is why the National Apology Foundation is building an online archive for all Australians to find out what their communities’ representatives said at the time.
