In the days after Kevin Rudd issued the Apology on 13 February 2008, politicians from across Australia speaking out. The courageous decision of Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson to unwind his party’s dogmatic resistance to the Apology liberated his colleagues to speak their mind, or rethink their old prejudices. While most Australians supported the Apology, some were opposed.

This history is at risk of being largely forgotten. This is why the National Apology Foundation is building an online archive for all Australians to find out what their communities’ representatives said at the time.
